BRUSSELS, May 26 (Reuters) - France said on Monday the latest proposals for a world trade liberalisation deal were neither balanced nor ambitious, but the EU's trade chief said he had overwhelming support to pursue the talks.
Anne-Marie Idrac, France's junior trade minister, told a news conference the compromise texts put forward by senior trade diplomats in the World Trade Organisation last week were "less ambitious and balanced than ever".
But Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said after briefing EU foreign ministers on the plans: "The overwhelming majority of member states are in favour of remaining engaged and taking forward the negotiation... The view expressed that the conditions do not exist for the round to be concluded successfully was a very small minority view." PARIS, May 25 (Reuters) - After a subdued Sunday start at the French Open, the big guns are unleashed on Monday when three-times champion Rafael Nadal and world number one Roger Federer start their campaigns on the Roland Garros clay.
Nadal, unbeaten at the French Open since making his debut in 2005, faces 20-year-old Brazilian qualifier Thomaz Bellucci on Centre Court, and should expect easy progress against a man with a solitary ATP Tour win to his name this season.
Federer, winner of just one minor title at Estoril in 2008, has been sidelined to Court Suzanne Lenglen for his opener against big-serving American Sam Querrey.
Spanish 12th seed Tommy Robredo opens Centre Court proceedings against 2004 finalist Guillermo Coria of Argentina, and third seed Jelena Jankovic will hope to join fellow Serb Ana Ivanovic in the second round when she faces Romanian lucky loser Monica Niculescu.
Eighth seed Venus Williams, beaten by sister Serena in the 2002 final, faces Israel's Tzipora Obziler while home hope Richard Gasquet, seeded eight, plays fellow Frenchman Florent Serra.
Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo, who has slipped down the rankings and is seeded a lowly 22nd, plays Ukraine's Olga Savchuk in the last match on Centre Court.

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 25 (Reuters) - Cruzeiro maintained their perfect start to the Brazilian championship by thumping Santos 4-0 on Sunday.
The Foxes are the only team with maximum points from their first three games after piling on the misery for Santos, who were knocked out of the South American Libertadores Cup by Mexico's America on Thursday.
Striker Guilherme opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area and doubled Cruzeiro's lead in the 63rd minute after cutting inside his marker and firing past Fabio Costa.
Wagner and Maicosuel completed the scoring.
Titleholders Sao Paulo, also knocked out of the Libertadores in midweek, remained winless after being held 1-1 at home by Coritiba in front of only 5,000 people at the Morumbi.
Rubens Cardoso gave promoted Coritiba a 14th minute lead and Borges replied for the hosts 11 minutes later. Sao Paulo, champions for the last two years, have taken two points from three games.
Goias blew their chance for a first win when they had two players sent off in the second half and were held 1-1 at home by Ipatinga, who almost remained winless.
Paulo Baier gave Goias a fifth minute lead from a free kick but the hosts had Julio Cesar sent off for a bad tackle in the 69th minute followed by Paulo Henrique in the 78th.
Neto Baiano headed the equaliser two minutes later.
Atletico Paranaense and Atletico Mineiro, both playing their first games under new coaches, drew 1-1.
Roberto Fernandes was making his debut for Paranaense while Alexandre Gallo was in charge of their opponents.
Figueirense, playing their first game under Guilherme Macuglia, were thumped 4-0 by Vitoria on Saturday.
