Memory remained the clearest leadership pocket in the entire equity market. The Nasdaq Composite gained 222.40 points to 26,202.59, up 0.86%, while the Dow managed 0.07% — a 79 basis point spread that memory and its adjacencies produced almost single-handedly.
The Kurv Memory Select ETF is the only U.S.-listed fund built to isolate that exposure. It trades on Cboe BZX under the ticker KMEM, launched in May 2026 after being renamed from the Kurv AI Memory ETF, and it holds 85.3% of its portfolio in three names.
The most recent widely disseminated session data covers August 7, when KMEM traded $16.26 within an intraday range of $15.82 to $17.00 on volume of 158,070 shares against a 209,470 average. Market capitalization at that print stood at $25.52 million. The fund's 52-week range spans $14.55 to $27.25 — a 87% peak-to-trough band for a product with roughly three months of trading history.
That volatility is the honest starting point. KMEM is not a diversified semiconductor fund. It is a leveraged expression of a single sub-industry running through three companies, wrapped in an actively managed structure that uses derivatives and holds a fixed income sleeve.

85.3% in Three Names Is the Feature, Not the Bug

Nvidia's chips cost roughly a hundred thousand dollars each. The memory and connectors that make them work cost more in aggregate across a rack, and HBM is the highest-margin component in the stack.
That positions SK hynix as the direct beneficiary of hyperscaler capital expenditure commitments extending into 2026 and beyond — a demand cycle characterized as structural rather than a single-quarter spike.
The risk sits in the same place. A 36.90% position in a single Korean issuer introduces currency exposure, foreign market settlement risk, differing accounting and reporting standards, and geopolitical risk tied to Korean semiconductor policy and U.S. export controls.

Samsung's handset division underperforming would drag a 23.00% portfolio position regardless of how well its memory business executed.
The 80% policy addresses this in principle. For inclusion, the fund invests in Memory Companies with at least 50% of revenue or profits attributable to, or at least 50% of assets attributable to, memory chip activities. Applied Optoelectronics, Semtech, MaxLinear, and Coherent all posted 4%-plus gains Tuesday as adjacent AI-infrastructure names, though they sit outside the strict memory definition.
What Actually Qualifies as a "Memory Company"
The definitional work in the prospectus is more specific than most thematic funds bother with, and it determines what can enter the portfolio.
Under normal circumstances, the fund invests at least 80% of net assets plus borrowings in the securities of Memory Companies, or in derivative instruments relating to those securities. For that policy, a Memory Company must have at least 50% of its revenue or profits attributable to — or at least 50% of its assets attributable to — memory chip activities.
Memory chips are defined as semiconductor devices designed for the temporary or permanent storage and retrieval of data in computer systems, split between volatile memory requiring power to maintain stored information and non-volatile memory retaining data after power removal.
The enumerated categories: Dynamic Random Access Memory, the volatile chips requiring periodic electrical refresh and used as main memory in computers, servers, and smartphones. Static Random Access Memory, retaining data without refresh while powered, typically used for processor cache. Random Access Memory as the general category encompassing both. Flash Memory, the non-volatile category including NAND used in solid-state drives, USB drives, and memory cards, and NOR used in embedded systems for code storage. And emerging types including magnetoresistive RAM and resistive RAM.
The definition is explicitly elastic — it may expand and update to reflect the fast-changing dynamics of the industry.
That elasticity is worth noting. A thematic mandate that can redefine its own universe gives the adviser latitude to add names that sit adjacent to memory as the AI stack evolves. It also means the fund an investor buys today may hold a materially different mix in twelve months without any shareholder action.
The 80% policy itself is non-fundamental and can be changed without shareholder approval, subject to 60 days' notice. So can the investment objective.
The fund is explicitly non-diversified, meaning it may invest a greater portion of assets in fewer issuers than a diversified fund is permitted to.
The Derivatives Overlay Most Buyers Never Read

The fund may invest, without limitation, in derivative instruments including options, FLEX options, forward and futures contracts, options on futures, and swap agreements. It purchases and sells a combination of call and put exchange-traded options contracts.
FLEX options are customized contracts trading on an exchange that allow customization of strike price, style, and expiration date while retaining price discovery in transparent auction markets and avoiding over-the-counter counterparty exposure. The practical consequence appears in the fund's own language: derivatives tracking memory company securities may be purchased with a fraction of the assets that would be needed to purchase the securities directly for equivalent exposure.

The credit parameters: the fund primarily invests in U.S. dollar-denominated investment grade debt rated Baa or higher, using the highest rating where agencies disagree. It may invest up to 20% of total assets in high yield securities rated B or higher — junk bonds, including high yield ETFs.
Other limits: up to 10% of total assets in securities economically tied to emerging market countries, with an exemption for short-dated local-currency investment grade sovereign debt. Foreign currency exposure normally limited to 10% of total assets. Up to 15% of total assets in preferred securities instruments. Investment in mortgage-related and other asset-backed securities without limitation, including to-be-announced transactions and, subject to guidelines, junior and equity tranches.
Duration is unconstrained — the fund may invest in U.S. and non-U.S. fixed income of any maturity or duration.
This is the part of KMEM that surprises buyers who purchased a memory theme. A shareholder is simultaneously exposed to interest rate risk, credit risk, high yield risk, mortgage prepayment and extension risk, emerging markets risk, and sovereign debt risk — none of which has anything to do with DRAM pricing.
In a rising-rate environment, that sleeve detracts. With the U.S. 10-year at 4.663% and the 30-year at 5.247% after touching a 19-year high, the fixed income book is operating in a hostile environment.
The honest framing: KMEM is a total-return fund using memory equities as its primary return driver and an actively managed credit portfolio as its secondary one. The stated objective is simply to maximize total return.
