Citi has reported a forecast of eroding another 8% from The USD/NIS as there is a progress in the reform.
The Israeli bond market has recorded gains in the end of February because of the high demand caused by the USD/NIS and as a result of the forecast of inflation in Israel for at least 2 years.
The demands has focused on the short term USD linked index bonds because of few reasons
1. Protection against inflation: USD index-linked bonds are designed to provide a hedge against inflation. As inflation rises, the value of the NIS may erode, reducing the purchasing power of investments denominated in NIS. In contrast, USD index-linked bonds are designed to maintain their real value by adjusting their interest payments and principal for inflation.
2. Currency risk: When the NIS erodes against the USD, investments denominated in NIS become less valuable in USD terms. Investors may seek to diversify their currency exposure and reduce their risk by investing in USD-denominated assets, such as USD index-linked bonds.
3. Diversification: Investors may seek to diversify their portfolio and reduce their overall risk by investing in different asset classes and currencies. USD index-linked bonds can provide a diversification benefit to investors who hold primarily NIS-denominated assets.
4. Liquidity: The USD index-linked bond market in Israel is relatively liquid, providing investors with the ability to buy and sell these bonds easily. This can make them an attractive investment option for investors seeking to manage their portfolio liquidity.
