XRP ($1.34) Defends $1.29 as Cross River and Standard Chartered Adopt RLUSD — Upside to $1.50
Spot XRP ETFs have posted inflows for 13 straight weeks while Bitcoin and Ether funds bleed | That's TradingNEWS
Key Points
- XRP rose 1.19% to $1.34 after testing a 24-hour low of $1.29, down from about $1.40 at the start of the week.
- Spot XRP ETFs have gone 13 straight weeks without a weekly outflow, reaching about $1.80 billion in cumulative inflows.
- Whales moved 84 million XRP to exchanges on Thursday, and Binance deposits hit a seven-month high.
XRP is trading at $1.34, up 1.19% on the day as of 10:38 a.m. ET. The 24-hour range runs from $1.29 to $1.35. XRP’s market capitalization is $84.59 billion, ranking it fifth among cryptocurrencies. Daily trading volume is $2.30 billion, or 2.7% of market value.
Circulating supply stands at 63.13 billion XRP, out of a maximum supply of 100 billion. The remaining tokens are held mostly by Ripple, much of it in scheduled escrow releases.
The token has had a rough week. XRP traded near $1.40 at the start of the week. On Monday, October 13, it lost that level and dropped to $1.38, down 2.5% on the day. On Tuesday, October 14, after the hot U.S. consumer price report, XRP fell 5% to 6% to $1.31. On Thursday it slid toward $1.30, and the 24-hour low touched $1.29. From the $1.40 level to the $1.29 low, XRP lost 7.9%.
Friday’s bounce is modest. XRP is up 3.9% from the $1.29 low. It has lost the $1.35 level, which had been support. Prediction markets show where traders saw the price this morning: at 10 a.m. ET, contracts paying out if XRP was at or above $1.32 traded at 90 cents, while contracts for $1.34 or above traded at just 9 cents. XRP has since edged up to $1.34.
The broader crypto market is recovering slowly. Bitcoin is at $82,361, up 0.71%. Ether is up 3.45% to $2,476.44. Solana is up 1.70% to $106.46. XRP’s 1.19% gain trails ether’s rebound by a wide margin.
The longer-term picture is weak. XRP has fallen nearly 50% over the past year. At the end of March 2026, XRP traded at $1.34, the same level as today. By June 30, it had dropped to $1.04. The token has spent most of 2026 in a range between $1 and $1.60.
The setup has a clear tension. On one side, Ripple has announced a string of institutional partnerships this week, and XRP spot ETFs have posted 13 straight weeks of inflows. On the other side, every Ripple deal this year has been followed by price declines, large holders are moving XRP onto exchanges, and the token is trading with the broader crypto market rather than on its own news. The next sections examine both sides.
Thursday’s Flush: Whales Move 84 Million XRP to Exchanges
The drop to $1.29 came with clear signs of selling by large holders.
On Thursday, 84 million XRP were added to exchange wallets as the price slipped toward $1.30. At $1.30, that is about $109 million worth of tokens moved to platforms where they can be sold quickly. Exchange inflows of that size usually signal that holders are preparing to sell.
Whale deposits to Binance hit a seven-month high this week. Large holders moving tokens to Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, added to selling pressure as the price fell to $1.31.
The timing matched the macro shock. The September U.S. consumer price index rose 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast. A day later, the producer price index rose 1.3% for the month and 6.3% over 12 months. Those reports reduced hopes for easier Federal Reserve policy and hit risk assets across the board.
Crypto liquidations surged. Across all crypto markets, about $937 million to $958 million in futures positions were liquidated in the 24 hours to noon ET on October 15. Long positions accounted for 84% or more. Ether led with $292.83 million, and Bitcoin followed with $214.66 million. XRP’s leveraged traders were caught in the same wave.
XRP fell more than Bitcoin on the inflation data. On October 14, Bitcoin fell 1.87% while XRP dropped 3.25% on the session, and 5% to 6% over 24 hours. XRP’s higher volatility means it tends to fall faster on bad news.
The $1.29 to $1.30 zone held. XRP has tested $1.30 several times this month and bounced each time. The 24-hour low of $1.29 dipped just below, but buyers stepped in quickly. That makes $1.29 to $1.30 the key floor.
Not all on-chain activity is bearish. XRP holders moved tens of millions of tokens into yield products on the XRP Ledger this week. Tokens locked in yield products are less likely to be sold in the short term.
For the forecast, Thursday’s exchange inflows are the main short-term risk. If the 84 million XRP moved to exchanges are sold, XRP could test $1.29 again. If those tokens stay on exchanges without being sold, the selling pressure could fade.
XRP ETFs: 13 Straight Weeks of Inflows, $1.80 Billion Total
Spot XRP ETFs are the strongest source of steady demand, even if the amounts are small.
XRP ETFs drew about $740,000 in net inflows on October 14. That same day, Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and Hyperliquid funds lost nearly $400 million combined. XRP was the only major crypto ETF category with positive flows.
The streak is long. XRP funds have not posted a weekly outflow since the week ending July 10. That is 13 straight weeks of net inflows. Cumulative net inflows into U.S. spot XRP ETFs have reached about $1.80 billion.
Earlier in October, XRP stood out again. On October 8, XRP ETFs drew $8.17 million while Bitcoin, Ether and Solana funds lost $319.99 million combined. The Franklin XRP ETF (XRPZ) accounted for the entire inflow that day. The other four XRP funds recorded zero net flows. Over the four trading days from October 5 to October 8, XRP ETFs added $11.31 million, while the other three categories shed $1.21 billion.
The pace has slowed. The week ending September 25 brought $75.6 million in inflows. The next two weeks brought $4.7 million and $11.3 million. XRP ETFs recorded zero net flows on October 9, October 12 and October 13. On October 13, only $20.5 million worth of XRP fund shares changed hands, the lowest trading volume of the month.
ETF investors are holding losses. As of early October, XRP funds were the only major crypto ETFs where investors held positions below their average cost. XRP ETF investors were about $130 million underwater, yet they kept buying.
The Bitwise XRP ETF shows the scale. In the first half of 2026, it added roughly 181.5 million XRP through share creations, against about 25.6 million XRP removed for redemptions. Fund-level data shows net buying even through price declines.
The comparison with other crypto ETFs is striking. In October, Bitcoin ETFs have posted a net outflow of about $278 million through October 13. Ether ETFs have lost $885.4 million through October 15. XRP ETFs have stayed positive.
For the forecast, ETF flows are a quiet positive. They have not moved the price, because the amounts are small compared with XRP’s $84.59 billion market cap. But they show steady institutional interest. A return to weekly inflows above $50 million would be a meaningful signal.
RLUSD Expansion: Cross River, Standard Chartered, DriveWealth and Privy in One Week
Ripple has announced a burst of partnerships this week, most of them centered on its RLUSD stablecoin.
Cross River Bank, October 15. Cross River is integrating RLUSD into its core banking system, with transactions settling on the XRP Ledger. Cross River provides banking infrastructure to fintech companies, including X Money. Fintech customers can access RLUSD payments through a single banking API, alongside traditional ACH and wire transfers. The deal supports intraday settlement, cross-border payments and round-the-clock treasury movements. The announcement does not confirm any integration between X Money and Ripple.
Standard Chartered, October 12. Standard Chartered launched institutional custody for RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger. The service is available through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. A separate plan with Ripple and LMAX Group would make RLUSD eligible as collateral for certain trading products. That collateral integration is not live yet.
Privy, October 13. Stripe-owned Privy is partnering with Ripple to bring programmable wallets to the XRP Ledger. Developers can create and manage XRPL wallets for fintech apps and AI-agent payments. The wallets support XRP, RLUSD and other ledger assets. A Ripple executive said AI-agent payments now account for about 25% of XRP Ledger activity.
DriveWealth, October 14. DriveWealth, a brokerage infrastructure provider, plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger to settle trades and cross-border payments. Ripple expects to discuss the partnership at its Swell conference on October 28.
RLUSD is growing. Its market capitalization has passed $2.5 billion, with more than $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger. Ripple issued $59.5 million in new RLUSD on October 14. RLUSD accounts for about 93% of all stablecoin value on the XRP Ledger, where total stablecoin supply is near $1.3 billion.
The XRP Ledger is expanding beyond payments. Tokenized assets on the network have passed $5 billion, ranking it sixth among blockchains for tokenized real-world assets. The ledger has processed more than $1.3 trillion in total value to date. Transactions settle in three to five seconds at a fraction of a cent.
For the forecast, the partnerships are positive for the XRP Ledger. They build real usage among banks, brokers and fintechs. But the direct impact on XRP’s price is limited, as the next section explains.
The XRP vs. RLUSD Problem: Why Deals Haven’t Moved the Price
Ripple’s partnerships are building the XRP Ledger, but they do not require anyone to buy XRP. That is the main reason the price has not responded.
RLUSD is a dollar-backed stablecoin. Banks and fintechs using it to settle payments hold dollars in token form, not XRP. When Cross River or DriveWealth moves money using RLUSD, the transactions run on the XRP Ledger, but users do not need to buy or hold XRP beyond small amounts.
XRP does play a role. Every account on the XRP Ledger must hold a small XRP reserve. Creating an RLUSD trust line also requires an XRP account reserve. Each transaction burns a tiny amount of XRP as a fee. As ledger activity grows, demand for XRP reserves and fees rises. But those amounts are small compared with XRP’s 63.13 billion circulating supply.
Ripple captures the economic value. Ripple earns interest on the reserves backing RLUSD. With U.S. Treasury yields above 5%, Ripple can earn significant income on $2.5 billion in reserves. Ripple is a private company, so XRP holders do not share in that income or in Ripple’s brokerage fees.
The track record is clear. Every Ripple partnership announced in 2026 has been followed by XRP’s price dropping. This week is no exception: the Standard Chartered, Privy, DriveWealth and Cross River deals all came during a week when XRP fell from about $1.40 to $1.29.
Active users are falling. XRP Ledger active users have slipped below 100,000, even as ETF inflows reached $1.80 billion. That suggests institutional interest through ETFs is growing while retail use of the ledger is shrinking.
AI-agent payments are a new source of activity. The Privy partnership and Ripple’s developer tools aim to make the XRP Ledger a payment layer for AI agents. AI payments make up about 25% of ledger activity, according to Ripple. But the dollar amounts are still small. One dashboard recorded about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD in cumulative AI-agent payments.
For the forecast, this disconnect caps the upside from Ripple news. Partnerships improve the long-term case for the XRP Ledger, but they are unlikely to drive short-term price gains. XRP’s near-term moves will follow Bitcoin and macro conditions more than Ripple announcements.
Swell Conference, October 28: Ripple’s Biggest Event of the Year
Ripple’s annual Swell conference on October 28 is the main scheduled catalyst for XRP this month.
Ripple typically uses Swell to announce major partnerships and product updates. Ripple has said it will discuss the DriveWealth collaboration at this year’s event. Other announcements could include new banking clients, RLUSD expansion, tokenization deals or updates on Ripple Prime, the company’s institutional brokerage unit.
Ripple Prime has been active. It recently expanded 24-hour trading of perpetual swaps on real-world assets across more than 100 markets, using RLUSD as collateral. It also connected to Bullish’s Bitcoin options market. Ripple Prime gives institutions access to trading and financing services, with RLUSD as a core part of the platform.
Swell coincides with other major events. The Fed’s decision is on October 28. Ford, Visa and several major companies report earnings around the same time. The UK Budget is on October 28. That overlap could amplify volatility.
Past Swell conferences have produced mixed price reactions. In some years, XRP rallied ahead of the event and sold off after it, a pattern known as “buy the rumor, sell the news.” Given XRP’s track record of falling after Ripple announcements in 2026, traders may be cautious about expecting a sustained rally from Swell.
The most market-moving announcements would be those that directly involve XRP demand. Examples include a major bank using XRP for liquidity, a large exchange-traded product launch or a corporate treasury buying XRP. Announcements focused only on RLUSD would likely have less impact on the token.
For the forecast, Swell could produce a short-term rally if Ripple announces XRP-specific deals. A run toward $1.40 ahead of October 28 is possible. But the risk of a “sell the news” reaction after the event is high.
Macro Backdrop: Hot Inflation, Fed on Hold, Yields at 5.09%
XRP trades with the broader crypto market, which means macro conditions matter more than Ripple news in the short term.
The inflation data this week was hot. September CPI rose 3.7% year over year. PPI rose 6.3%. Import prices rose 1.1% in September, above the 0.8% forecast. Those numbers pushed the 10-year Treasury yield to 5.33% after the CPI report.
Yields have since eased. The 10-year yield is at 5.09% today. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, speaking in Bangkok, gave no signal on the October 27–28 Fed meeting. Markets now price an 85% probability that the Fed holds rates steady. The dollar index fell 0.35% to 101.69 and is on track for its first weekly decline in five weeks.
High yields are a headwind for crypto. When risk-free Treasuries pay above 5%, investors have less reason to hold volatile assets that pay no yield. XRP does not pay interest, so it competes directly with Treasuries for investor money.
The equity market is mixed. Technology stocks are under pressure from AI-related debt concerns. The Nasdaq is down 0.52%. Crypto has traded closely with tech stocks this year, so tech weakness tends to weigh on crypto.
Energy prices remain high. Brent crude is above $105 a barrel because of the Middle East conflict. High energy costs keep inflation elevated, which keeps the Fed cautious.
Gold is rallying. Gold is up 0.95% to $4,209.60, as investors seek safety in traditional hedges rather than crypto.
The U.S. midterm elections on November 3 add political uncertainty. Crypto policy has been a campaign issue, and the outcome could affect regulation.
For the forecast, the macro backdrop is improving at the margin but remains challenging. A Fed hold on October 28 and falling yields would support XRP. A surprise Fed hike or a jump in yields would push XRP back toward $1.29.
XRP vs. Bitcoin and Ether: Lagging the Rebound
XRP’s performance relative to other major cryptocurrencies shows weaker momentum.
On Friday, XRP is up 1.19%, while Bitcoin is up 0.71% and ether is up 3.45%. XRP is beating Bitcoin but trailing ether by a wide margin. Solana is up 1.70%, and Dogecoin is up 2.84%.
Over the past week, XRP has underperformed. XRP fell from about $1.40 to $1.34, a drop of 4.3%. Bitcoin is roughly flat for the week. Ether has fallen 2.30% over five days.
The year-to-date gap is large. XRP has fallen nearly 50% over 12 months. Bitcoin is down 25.73% over 12 months. Ether is down 36.42%. XRP has been the weakest of the three over the past year.
ETF flows tell the opposite story. XRP ETFs have posted 13 straight weeks of inflows, while Bitcoin ETFs are down $278 million in October and Ether ETFs are down $885.4 million. Institutional money is still moving into XRP products, but that has not translated into price strength.
The disconnect has two explanations. First, XRP ETF flows are small compared with XRP’s market cap. Weekly inflows of $5 million to $10 million cannot offset selling from large holders who moved 84 million XRP to exchanges in a single day. Second, much of XRP’s trading volume is offshore on crypto exchanges, where retail and leveraged traders dominate. ETF flows reflect only one part of the market.
Prediction markets show cautious expectations. Traders put a 23% probability on XRP rising above $1.60 at any point in October. They put a 19% probability on XRP falling below $0.80 at any point in 2026.
For the forecast, XRP needs Bitcoin to lead. If Bitcoin breaks above $84,000, XRP is likely to follow toward $1.40. If Bitcoin falls below $80,000, XRP would likely test $1.29 and possibly lower.
The Technical Map: $1.29 Floor, $1.40 Ceiling
XRP’s chart shows a token pinned between a tested floor and a broken support that is now resistance.
The key support zone is $1.29 to $1.30. XRP has tested this area several times in October. The 24-hour low of $1.29 dipped just below $1.30 before buyers stepped in. A daily close below $1.29 would be a significant breakdown.
Below $1.29, the next support levels are $1.27 and $1.20. A deeper decline would bring $1.04 into focus, the June 30 level. The 52-week low near $0.99 is the ultimate floor.
The first resistance is $1.35. XRP lost this level during the week, and it now acts as resistance. A daily close above $1.35 would be the first sign of recovery.
Above $1.35, the next resistance is $1.38, Monday’s level, and $1.40, the key level that XRP lost on October 13. The $1.40 zone has been a pivot point all year. A daily close above $1.40 would signal that the decline is over.
Above $1.40, resistance sits at $1.42 and $1.50. The $1.60 level is the top of XRP’s 2026 trading range. Prediction markets assign only a 23% chance of reaching $1.60 in October.
The daily trend is bearish. XRP has made lower highs and lower lows over the past two weeks. The move from $1.40 to $1.29 broke several short-term support levels. The token needs to reclaim $1.40 to reverse that pattern.
Volume is a concern. Daily volume of $2.30 billion is moderate. A breakout above $1.40 would need stronger volume to confirm. A breakdown below $1.29 on high volume would signal a deeper decline.
For the forecast, the key levels are $1.29 on the downside and $1.40 on the upside. A daily close above $1.40 targets $1.50. A daily close below $1.29 targets $1.20.
Scenarios Into the October 28 Fed Decision and Swell Conference
Base case: range $1.29 to $1.42 (50% probability). Bitcoin trades between $80,000 and $84,000. The Fed holds on October 28 as expected. Yields stay near 5.10%. XRP ETF flows stay positive but small. Swell produces RLUSD-focused announcements without major XRP-specific deals. XRP climbs back toward $1.40 ahead of Swell and fails to hold above it. The token stays in a $1.29 to $1.42 range. A move to $1.40 from $1.34 is a gain of 4.5%.
Bull case: $1.50 to $1.60 (20% probability). Bitcoin breaks above $84,000 toward $88,000. The 10-year yield falls below 5.00%. XRP ETF inflows return to $50 million or more per week. Swell includes major announcements that directly drive XRP demand, such as large bank liquidity deals or a treasury buyer. The 84 million XRP moved to exchanges do not get sold. XRP clears $1.40 and $1.42 and moves to $1.50, then tests $1.60. A move to $1.50 is a gain of 11.9%.
Bear case: $1.20, then $1.04 (30% probability). Bitcoin falls below $80,000 toward $76,000. Yields rise back toward 5.30% on more hot data or a hawkish Fed. Whales sell the tokens moved to exchanges. XRP ETF flows turn negative for the first time since July. XRP breaks below $1.29 and moves to $1.20. A deeper selloff would bring $1.04, the June 30 level, into play.
Key events can shift these odds. Big Tech earnings on October 20 and 21 will drive tech and crypto sentiment. Daily ETF flow data will show whether institutional demand is holding. The Fed and Swell on October 28 are the biggest single-day risks.
The base case is favored. The Ripple news flow is strong, ETF demand is steady and the macro backdrop is easing. But the disconnect between Ripple’s partnerships and XRP’s price, along with whale exchange deposits, keeps a breakout unlikely without a stronger Bitcoin.

XRP Price Forecast Verdict: Hold $1.29, Break $1.40, Target $1.50
XRP is at $1.34, up 1.19% on the day after testing $1.29. The setup is neutral to cautiously bullish, with the outcome tied to Bitcoin and the Fed.
The bull case rests on four points. First, spot XRP ETFs have posted 13 straight weeks of inflows, reaching about $1.80 billion cumulative, even as Bitcoin and Ether ETFs bled $278 million and $885.4 million in October. Second, Ripple announced four institutional partnerships in one week: Cross River Bank, Standard Chartered, Privy and DriveWealth. Third, RLUSD has passed $2.5 billion in market cap, with more than $1 billion on the XRP Ledger, and tokenized assets on the ledger have passed $5 billion. Fourth, the $1.29 to $1.30 floor has held multiple times in October.
The bear case rests on four points. Whales moved 84 million XRP to exchanges on Thursday, and Binance deposits hit a seven-month high. Every Ripple partnership in 2026 has been followed by price declines, because RLUSD deals do not require buying XRP. XRP has fallen nearly 50% over 12 months, the weakest of the three largest cryptocurrencies. And XRP Ledger active users have slipped below 100,000.
The $1.40 level is the decisive test. XRP lost it on October 13, and reclaiming it would reverse the two-week downtrend.
The forecast is a recovery to $1.40 ahead of the October 28 Swell conference, with a daily close above $1.40 targeting $1.50. A move from $1.34 to $1.50 is a gain of 11.9%. The triggers are a daily close above $1.40, Bitcoin above $84,000 and weekly XRP ETF inflows above $50 million. The invalidation level is a daily close below $1.29, which would point to $1.20.
The risk-reward is favorable. From $1.34, the distance to the $1.50 target is $0.16. The distance to the $1.29 invalidation level is $0.05. That is a ratio of 3.2 to 1. The near-term target of $1.40 gives a ratio of 1.2 to 1.
The verdict is cautiously bullish: hold $1.29, break $1.40, target $1.50. XRP-specific announcements at Swell combined with a Bitcoin breakout would put $1.60 in play. A Bitcoin breakdown below $80,000 or whale selling would send XRP toward $1.20.
