Key Points

  • Spot Bitcoin ETFs netted $4.8862M on August 11; only IBIT drew creations, FBTC lost $4.13M
  • IBIT accounts for $60.5B of $51.5B category inflows while GBTC has shed $27.47B
  • IBIT at $35.94 versus a $36.19 NAV; $38.50 opens above $65,000 spot, $32.84 below $63,392

The August 11 session produced the cleanest illustration yet of how concentrated this market has become. Net inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs totaled $4.8862 million, and only BlackRock's IBIT saw fresh money enter — every other issuer recorded either zero flows or mild outflows.

IBIT closed at $35.94, down $0.29 or 0.80%, then traded $36.13 in the overnight session for a 0.53% gain. The fund's 52-week range runs $32.84 to $71.82, which places the current price 9.4% above the annual low and 50.0% below the high.

Spot Ethereum ETFs went the other direction on the same session, logging $1.7644 million in net outflows led by Fidelity's FETH with $2.3283 million in redemptions.

The macro backdrop supplied no catalyst. Headline CPI slowed to 3.4% year-over-year with core at 2.5%, both matching consensus, per the July 2026 CPI release. Bitcoin held $64,000 after touching $63,204 earlier in the session, and the flow data reflected the same indecision.

The thesis is that the wrapper is working and the distribution is not. The US spot Bitcoin ETF complex holds $77.6 billion in net assets against $51.5 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch. IBIT accounts for $60.5 billion of those total inflows. Fidelity's FBTC has taken roughly $9.95 billion. Grayscale's GBTC has shed $27.47 billion.

One fund has absorbed 117% of the category's net creations. That is not a market with twelve competitors. It is a monopoly with eleven tag-alongs, and the squeeze has now produced its first casualty.

The trade is IBIT's $36.19 NAV reference against Bitcoin's $63,900 pivot. Above $65,000 spot, the flow streak resumes and $38.50 comes into play. Below $63,392, the outflows extend and the $32.84 low returns to the frame.

The Six-Day Sequence: $853 Million In, $144 Million Out, $4.89 Million Back

The flow reversal across the first week of August is the sharpest the complex has produced this summer.

Between August 3 and August 7, US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $853.54 million with positive flows across all five sessions. That represented the strongest weekly print since mid-April 2026 and coincided with Bitcoin breaking through the $65,000 psychological barrier. The weekly swing was even larger measured against the prior period: funds moved from a $61.53 million outflow to a $754.69 million inflow, an $816 million turnaround inside seven days.

Then Monday reversed it entirely. Bitcoin ETFs recorded $144.67 million in net outflows across five products, ending the five-session inflow streak. IBIT led the withdrawals with $53.56 million, followed by GBTC at $52.02 million and FBTC at $40.32 million. Bitwise's BITB posted a $28.44 million exit and Franklin Templeton's EZBC shed $7.38 million.

Grayscale's Bitcoin Mini Trust was the only fund to attract fresh capital that session, adding $37.06 million.

Tuesday stabilized at the margin with $4.8862 million net, driven entirely by IBIT. Redemptions at competing products included $4.13 million from FBTC, $11.55 million from ARKB and $10.30 million from VanEck's HODL.

Read that arc: $853.54 million in over five days, $144.67 million out in one, then $4.89 million back. The complex gave up 17% of the week's inflow in a single session and recovered 3.4% of that outflow the next day.

The volume caveat matters. Low volume makes daily figures noisy, and a single large creation or redemption can swing the headline number. What survives that caveat is the pattern: the inability of products beyond IBIT to attract meaningful capital even on a quiet day is a structural signal.

Institutional conviction is concentrated, not broad. The market is maturing, but maturing unevenly.

IBIT Has Taken $60.5 Billion Of A $51.5 Billion Category

The concentration math is the single most important fact in this asset class and it deserves precise statement.

The US spot Bitcoin ETF complex holds $77.6 billion in net assets and has taken in $51.5 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch across twelve products. IBIT accounts for $60.5 billion of total inflows. FBTC has drawn roughly $9.95 billion. GBTC has shed $27.47 billion.

Add those three: $60.5 billion in, $9.95 billion in, $27.47 billion out equals $43.0 billion — leaving roughly $8.5 billion spread across the remaining nine funds.

IBIT alone has taken 117.5% of the category's net creations. The entire rest of the industry, netted against GBTC's bleed, contributes a negative to the aggregate before Fidelity's contribution.

The fund-level flow data confirms the momentum is still one-directional. IBIT recorded five-day net flows of $484.27 million and one-month net flows of $1.09 billion. Twelve-month net flows total $3.86 billion, and three-year cumulative net flows sit at $61.09 billion.

The asset-value picture is uglier because of price. Five-day net AUM change ran $967.76 million and one-month $4.12 billion. Three-month net AUM change was negative $17.39 billion, six-month negative $8.16 billion, and twelve-month negative $36.77 billion.

That gap between flows and AUM is entirely price. IBIT took in $3.86 billion of net creations over twelve months while assets fell $36.77 billion. Bitcoin's decline from above $126,000 in October 2025 to $64,000 destroyed $40.6 billion of value inside a fund that never stopped growing its coin count.

Three-month net flows were negative $5 billion against a negative $17.39 billion AUM change. Even during the worst stretch of the drawdown, redemptions accounted for less than a third of the asset decline.

Holders did not leave. The price fell.

The First Fund Closure In US Spot Bitcoin ETF History

The competitive squeeze has produced its first structural casualty, and the date is five days out.

Hashdex is closing its Bitcoin ETF, the smallest US spot product by net assets, with a final trading day of August 17 before it sells its remaining Bitcoin and returns cash to shareholders. It is the first closure of its kind in the US.

That is a milestone worth marking. Twelve products launched in January 2024, and nineteen months later the field is shrinking rather than expanding. Part of the drag is competition for attention.

The mechanics of the wind-down create a small, dated supply event. The fund liquidates its Bitcoin holdings and distributes cash, which means a forced seller with a hard deadline inside a week where Bitcoin is defending $63,392. The position is the smallest in the category, so the market impact is negligible in dollar terms — but the signal is not.

Issuers who cannot differentiate on liquidity or brand may find the path to scale increasingly narrow.

Look at the economics. IBIT charges a 0.25% expense ratio that undercuts the category by roughly two-thirds, carries $2.03 billion in daily trading value, and trades at a 0.11% premium to NAV. A competitor running a fraction of that volume cannot match the spread, cannot match the fee, and cannot match the authorized participant depth.

The premium detail is the tell on efficiency. IBIT trading at 0.11% above NAV means creation and redemption arbitrage is functioning tightly. Smaller funds with thinner AP relationships run wider dislocations, which raises the effective cost of ownership beyond the headline expense ratio.

For allocators, that combination — lowest fee, tightest spread, deepest liquidity — makes the decision trivial. This concentration of capital suggests investors are prioritizing liquidity, brand recognition, and operational scale when allocating to crypto through traditional brokerage accounts.

Expect more closures. The category supports two or three products at scale, not twelve.

BlackRock Cut The In-Kind Threshold 96% And That Is A Supply Sink

The most consequential structural change of the week came from plumbing rather than flows.

The minimum size for in-kind conversions of Bitcoin into IBIT fell from $25 million to $1 million — a 96% reduction. The change gives investors holding $1 million in Bitcoin access to the conversion process through authorized participants, where the prior threshold restricted it to holders of 25 times that amount. Activity has grown across the past three quarters.

The reduced level applies to both in-kind creations and redemptions. Investors cannot transact directly with the issuer; the process runs through APs.

The directional effect strongly favors supply absorption. In-kind creation converts self-custodied coins into fund holdings, which removes float from the liquid market and parks it inside a vehicle with structurally low turnover. Cutting the threshold 96% multiplies the addressable pool of holders who can execute that conversion by orders of magnitude.

Consider who sits between $1 million and $25 million in Bitcoin holdings. At $64,000, that band spans 15.6 to 390 coins — family offices, early holders, small funds, high-net-worth individuals with custody friction. That cohort holds a substantial share of the non-exchange supply and had no mechanism to convert without triggering a taxable sale.

The in-kind route changes the calculus. A holder can move coins into the wrapper without a disposition, gaining reporting simplicity, custody outsourcing and estate-planning utility.

The offsetting risk is symmetric. The same 96% reduction applies to redemptions, which means the exit door widened by the same factor. A holder who wants their coins back can now extract them at $1 million rather than $25 million.

Which direction dominates depends on whether the marginal $1-to-$25 million holder wants exposure inside the wrapper or outside it. The three quarters of growing conversion activity cited alongside the change suggest the flow has been inbound.

BlackRock's own read: IBIT investors remain focused on long-term Bitcoin exposure.

Flows Have Been Negative In 54% Of 2026 Sessions

The historical distribution shows this year is materially worse than the two that preceded it.

Across the 656 trading sessions from January 11, 2024 through July 31, 2026, net flows were negative on 262 of them — roughly 40% of the time. The share has moved each year: 31% of sessions in 2024, 40% in 2025, and 54% so far in 2026.

A majority of 2026 sessions have produced outflows. That is a regime change from launch conditions, and it is the number that frames every weekly headline.

The extremes are documented. The longest outflow streak ran 13 sessions from May 15 to June 3, 2026, shedding $4.37 billion. The longest inflow streak ran 19 sessions from May 13 to June 7, 2024. Cumulative net flow remains positive at $51.3 billion.

Put the 2026 statistics against the price. Bitcoin entered the year above $93,000 and trades at $64,000 — a 31% decline. Fifty-four percent of sessions with outflows against a 31% price decline is a market where the wrapper amplified the move rather than cushioning it.

The current five-session streak that broke on August 10 was, in that context, a meaningful outlier rather than a return to normal. Five consecutive positive days in a year where 54% of sessions are negative is a two-standard-deviation event.

The transmission mechanism to price is measurable. Research using daily data from the five largest US spot funds found that every $100 million in net inflow correlates with a same-day price move of roughly 53 basis points, building to about 96 basis points over ten trading days.

Apply that to the recent sequence. The $853.54 million August 3–7 week implies 4.5 percentage points of same-day price impact and 8.2 points across the following fortnight. The $144.67 million August 10 outflow implies a 77 basis point drag. Tuesday's $4.89 million is statistically zero.

Bitcoin moved from roughly $62,662 at the early-August low to above $65,000 during the inflow week, then back to $63,204 on Monday. The observed moves track the model within a point.

That correlation is why flow data is the highest-frequency read available on where spot goes next.

IBIT's Levels: $32.84 Below, $36.19 NAV, $38.50 Above

The fund's technical structure maps cleanly onto Bitcoin's, and the reference points are tight.

IBIT closed August 11 at $35.94, down 0.80%, with an overnight print of $36.13 for a 0.53% recovery. NAV sits at $36.19 against a market price near $36.30 on the prior session — a 0.11% premium.

The 52-week range runs $32.84 to $71.82. The low at $32.84 is 8.6% below the close. The high at $71.82 is 99.8% above it, which means the fund has given back exactly half its value from peak.

Recent trading has been narrow. On August 2 the fund changed hands at $35.64 against a previous close of $36.70, with a day range of $35.29 to $36.12. That $35.29 print is the operative near-term support beneath spot.

The upside reference is $38.50, which corresponds to Bitcoin clearing $65,000 and the flow streak resuming. From $35.94, that is 7.1% of upside.

The downside reference is the $32.84 annual low, triggered by Bitcoin losing $63,392 and the outflows extending. That is 8.6% of downside.

Systematic scoring reads negative. Based on moving averages and other technical indicators, the daily buy/sell signal on IBIT registers Strong Sell.

The mechanical relationship to spot is what makes IBIT tradeable as a proxy. The fund tracks Bitcoin's price with NAV determined by the CF Benchmarks Index, carries a 0.25% expense ratio, and trades on Nasdaq with $2.03 billion in daily value. Tracking error is minimal and the wrapper adds no leverage.

For an allocator without custody infrastructure, IBIT is Bitcoin with a 25 basis point annual drag and none of the key management risk. That is the entire product thesis, and it is why $60.5 billion has gone through this door and nowhere else.

Combined net assets across the complex sit at $78.16 billion on one measure and $77.6 billion on another, with IBIT representing the overwhelming majority.

Bitcoin At $64,130 Is The Only Input That Matters

The fund is a pass-through, so the flow analysis resolves into a spot call.

Bitcoin traded near $64,130, up 0.83% on the daily candle, after moving between $63,534 and $64,218. Price fell toward $63,200 earlier in the session as sellers pushed below $64,000, then buyers entered near the lower end of the range and reclaimed the handle.

The technical structure is compressed. The 20-day EMA sits at $63,943, the 50-day EMA between $64,587 and $64,702, the 100-day EMA between $66,825 and $67,025, and the 200-day EMA between $72,196 and $72,569. The 200-day SMA sits at $69,918.

Spot above the 20-day and below the 50-day is the definition of a range. RSI readings cluster between 50.31 and 56.25.

The levels that decide the ETF flow direction: invalidation for the bullish case is a daily close below $63,392, and invalidation for the bearish case is a daily close above $65,700. The $65,000 print is the specific threshold cited for the flow streak resuming.

Derivatives cleared out ahead of the print. Total crypto liquidations reached $174 million over 24 hours, split $86.21 million long and $87.99 million short, with Bitcoin accounting for $32.73 million and $30.81 million respectively.

The volume backdrop is extraordinary. The 30-day average combined trading volume for BTC perpetuals on the two largest venues fell to $10.8 billion as of August 10, the lowest since 2023, with only 5% of days since January 2021 recording lower readings. Perpetual open interest averaged around 300,000 BTC between June 1 and August 11 against a 2026 average of 288,000.

Elevated open interest with collapsed volume leaves the market exposed to liquidation-driven moves in either direction. At $64,000, 300,000 BTC of open interest is $19.2 billion of notional sitting on a book that cannot absorb it.

For the ETF complex, that setup means flows will follow the break rather than cause it. A liquidation cascade in either direction produces the price move first and the creation or redemption second.

Strategy Is Selling And The ETF Bid Has To Absorb It

The corporate treasury channel has flipped from the demand side to the supply side, and it is the largest single overhang on this market.

Strategy's official ledger showed the company sold 1,690 BTC for approximately $109 million at an average price of $64,262 during the week ending August 10. The company has not purchased in seven weeks and has sold $432 million worth in 2026.

The forward risk dwarfs the executed selling. Strategy carries a potential $5 billion liquidation authorization. At $64,000 that represents 78,125 BTC — roughly 46 times the size of last week's sale.

Run that against the ETF complex. The strongest week of inflows since mid-April drew $853.54 million. A full $5 billion liquidation would require nearly six such weeks to absorb, and the category has produced exactly one of them this year.

Two demand engines have driven Bitcoin: the ETF complex and accumulation by treasury companies. One is now working against price. The most potent drag on sentiment is the potential liquidation authorization, while miner selling has become negligible in the immediate term.

The average sale price of $64,262 sits 132 dollars above current spot. That is a seller getting filled at the top of the current range, and it explains why $65,000 has rejected four separate attempts.

Strategy's liquidations keep the recovery fragile and less able to absorb shocks from US economic surprises or energy markets.

The offsetting bid is on-chain rather than institutional. Whale and shark wallets have continued accumulating within the $63,000 to $65,000 band while balances held by smaller investors fell at the fastest pace since December 2024. Large holders are functioning as the buyer of last resort for supply that institutional vehicles and corporate treasuries are releasing.

Mining difficulty sits 19.9% below peak, which removes the third traditional seller from the equation.

Two sellers — ETF redemptions and Strategy — against one buyer cohort with deep pockets. That balance has held $63,000 for three weeks.

Ethereum And Solana Show Where The Money Actually Went

The cross-product flow dispersion on the same sessions reveals allocation preferences the aggregate Bitcoin number hides.

On August 10, while Bitcoin ETFs shed $144.67 million, Ethereum products lost $14.59 million, ending a four-day positive run that had gathered roughly $245 million the prior week. Solana products added $8.83 million and HYPE products found buyers.

On August 11, Bitcoin took $4.8862 million while Ethereum bled $1.7644 million led by FETH redemptions of $2.3283 million.

Solana's August 10 print was its strongest single day since May 12, lifting total Solana ETF net assets to roughly $906 million with cumulative inflows past $1.15 billion. XRP ETFs, by contrast, saw weekly inflows collapse 93% to $1.01 million from $14.86 million, with net assets slipping to $964.21 million.

Put the week in one frame. Bitcoin ETFs swung from a $61.53 million outflow to a $754.69 million inflow. Ethereum funds pulled in $195.34 million, close to seven times the prior week's $27.42 million. XRP moved the other way entirely.

That dispersion is the maturation signal. Institutional crypto allocation is no longer a single Bitcoin decision — it is a relative-value exercise across four or five liquid wrappers with different yield characteristics.

The yield differential is driving it. Solana staking offers 5% to 7% and a staking ETF filing is under review. Ethereum's base APR compressed to 2.78% with MEV adding 10% to 30% on top. Bitcoin generates zero native yield.

Against a 2-year Treasury at 4.212%, Bitcoin's ETF proposition is pure directional exposure with a 25 basis point fee. Solana's is directional exposure plus carry above the risk-free rate.

That comparison explains why $8.83 million went to Solana on a session Bitcoin lost $144.67 million, and it is the structural competitive threat to IBIT's dominance that fee compression cannot answer.

Bitcoin ETF assets at $77.6 billion still dwarf Ethereum's $18 billion and Solana's $906 million. The question is which one grows faster from here.

What The Ten-Day Transmission Model Says About This Week

The flow-to-price relationship gives a usable framework for what current data implies.

Every $100 million in net inflow correlates with a same-day price move of roughly 53 basis points, building to about 96 basis points over ten trading days. That means flows carry nearly twice the cumulative impact of their initial effect.

Apply it to the August 3–7 week. The $853.54 million of inflow implies 4.52% of same-day impact and 8.19% over ten sessions. That ten-session window extends through August 21, which means roughly 3.7 percentage points of residual upward pressure remain unexpressed if the model holds.

Netting against the $144.67 million outflow on August 10 removes 1.39 percentage points of that residual over its own ten-day window. Tuesday's $4.89 million adds 0.05.

Net residual from the recent flow sequence: approximately 2.35 percentage points of upward pressure through the third week of August, assuming no new flow.

At $64,130, that implies roughly $65,637 — above the $65,000 threshold that would restart the streak and put IBIT's $38.50 reference in play.

The model breaks if flows turn structurally negative. Fifty-four percent of 2026 sessions have produced outflows, and the base rate argues that the next ten sessions deliver more redemptions than creations.

The confounding variable is Strategy. A $5 billion liquidation executed over any timeframe overwhelms the entire flow model, because the transmission coefficient was estimated on ETF creations against a market without a known 78,125-coin seller.

For traders using this framework, the practical application is directional confirmation rather than price targeting. Positive flows above $50 million daily confirm the bullish structure. Negative flows below $100 million daily confirm the bearish one. Anything between is noise, and $4.89 million is emphatically noise.

Weekly flow reports publish every Monday and carry the signal. Daily prints carry the volatility.

The Case For And Against IBIT At $35.94

The bull case rests on four facts and they are all structural.

First, concentration. IBIT has absorbed $60.5 billion of $51.5 billion in category net inflows, holds the majority of $77.6 billion in complex assets, charges 0.25% against a category average nearly three times higher, and trades $2.03 billion daily at a 0.11% premium to NAV. Competitors are closing.

Second, the plumbing change. The in-kind threshold falling from $25 million to $1 million opens a conversion channel to every holder above 15.6 coins, converting self-custodied supply into fund holdings without a taxable disposition.

Third, the spot structure. Bitcoin holds $63,000 with whale accumulation in the $63,000 to $65,000 band, miner selling negligible at 19.9% below peak difficulty, perpetual volume at a three-year low, and open interest at 300,000 BTC creating squeeze potential in either direction.

Fourth, the drawdown. IBIT at $35.94 sits 50.0% below its 52-week high of $71.82 while its coin count has grown every twelve-month period since launch. The asset decline is entirely price, not redemption.

The bear case is equally concrete.

Flows have been negative in 54% of 2026 sessions against 40% in 2025 and 31% in 2024. Three-month net flows ran negative $5 billion. Twelve-month AUM fell $36.77 billion. Strategy carries a $5 billion liquidation authorization and has been absent as a buyer for seven weeks. The daily technical signal reads Strong Sell. And competing wrappers offer 5% to 7% native yield that Bitcoin structurally cannot match.

The resolution point is $65,000 spot. Above it, the flow streak resumes and the model implies $38.50 on IBIT. Below $63,392, redemptions extend and $32.84 returns.

Between those two, the fund is a 9% range with a 0.25% annual drag.

What To Watch Between Now And September

The calendar thins after this week and the flow data becomes the only high-frequency signal available.

The immediate item is August 17, when the first US spot Bitcoin ETF closure completes its final trading day and liquidates. The dollar impact is trivial; the precedent is not. Watch whether a second issuer announces a wind-down within the following month.

The weekly flow reports publish every Monday. The threshold that matters is $10 million daily sustained. Four consecutive weeks of aggregate inflows above $500 million would restore the demand narrative. Four weeks below $100 million would confirm the summer collapse is structural.

Strategy's ledger updates publish alongside its filings. Any disclosure of additional sales beyond the 1,690 BTC executed in the week ending August 10 accelerates the downside. A resumption of purchases after seven weeks of absence would be the single most bullish datapoint available.

The macro sequence runs through September. August CPI publishes September 11 with $4.03 gasoline and $90 Brent embedded — a print that reverses July's 2.9% gasoline decline and could push headline inflation back toward 3.6%. The FOMC votes September 15–16 with a hold at roughly 50% probability and three dissenters wanting to hike.

Bitcoin's correlation to equities sits at 84.5%. A hawkish September repricing takes the S&P 500 down from 7,728.20 and Bitcoin down with it, which produces ETF redemptions rather than causing them.

The in-kind conversion data is the slower-moving signal worth tracking. Activity has grown across three quarters, and a 96% threshold reduction should accelerate it. Watch IBIT's coin count rather than its dollar assets — the coin count strips out price and shows whether the wrapper is genuinely absorbing float.

Finally, watch the yield competition. Solana's staking ETF filing is under review with 5% to 7% native yield. Approval would create the first US product offering meaningful carry on a crypto asset, and every dollar that goes there is a dollar that does not go into IBIT.

Verdict: IBIT Is A Range Trade At $35.94 — Buy $33.50, Sell $38.50

The fund is a pass-through on Bitcoin with a 25 basis point drag, so the trade is the spot range expressed through the cleanest wrapper available.

IBIT closed at $35.94 with NAV at $36.19 and an overnight print of $36.13. The complex holds $77.6 billion against $51.5 billion of cumulative net inflows, and IBIT has taken $60.5 billion of that. The fund runs a 0.25% expense ratio against a category charging nearly three times more, trades $2.03 billion daily at a 0.11% premium to NAV, and just cut its in-kind conversion minimum 96% from $25 million to $1 million.

Entry at $35.94 with a stop on a close below $33.50 risks 6.8%. First target is $36.19 at NAV. Second is $38.50, corresponding to Bitcoin clearing $65,000 and the flow streak resuming, for 7.1%. Third is $40.00, corresponding to spot near $67,000 at the 100-day EMA, for 11.3%.

Risk-reward to $38.50 runs 1.0 to 1. To $40.00, 1.7 to 1. Neither is compelling, which is the honest read: IBIT at $35.94 is fairly priced for a 9% range.

The better structure is scaling. Buy $33.50 to $34.50 against the $32.84 annual low, sell $38.00 to $38.50 against the $65,000 spot threshold, and hold nothing in between. That converts a mediocre directional trade into a defined-range one with 12% of capture per cycle.

The signal to abandon the range and hold directionally is four consecutive weeks of aggregate complex inflows above $500 million. That would mark the first sustained institutional demand since mid-April and take Bitcoin through $67,025 at the 100-day EMA with IBIT following to $40.

The signal to exit entirely is Strategy executing meaningfully against its $5 billion authorization. At $64,000 that is 78,125 coins against a complex that produced $853.54 million in its best week of the year. That scenario takes Bitcoin through $60,000 toward the $59,300 June low and IBIT through $32.84.

The structural read stays constructive despite the price. Fifty-four percent of sessions negative, $36.77 billion of AUM erased over twelve months, and IBIT still added $3.86 billion of net creations across that span while a competitor bled $27.47 billion. Holders in this wrapper are not leaving.

That is the durable fact underneath a noisy $4.89 million print.
