Bitcoin (BTC,USD) Defends $63,900 With $144.6M in ETF Outflows and Brent Above $89 Before July CPI
BTC failed a fourth attempt to hold $65,000, trading between $63,771 and $64,908 with RSI neutral at 50.31 | That's TradingNEWS
Key Points
- Bitcoin at $64,279, down 0.9% in 24 hours, holding the 20-day SMA at $64,219 and 50-day at $63,392.
- US spot BTC ETFs posted $144.6M in outflows on Aug 10 after $853M of inflows the prior week.
- Loss of $63,900 opens $62,000; a reclaim of $65,500 targets the 100-day SMA at $67,628.
The bitcoin price traded at $64,279 on Tuesday, down 0.9% over 24 hours and up 1% on the week, after a session that carried it as low as $63,771 and as high as $64,908. The intraday floor printed at $63,852 on Binance during the sharpest leg of the decline, a drop of roughly 2% to $63,780 before buyers reclaimed the $64,000 handle. Twenty-four-hour spot turnover reached $21.32 billion against a market capitalization of $1.290 trillion.
That price sits 49% below the $126,000 all-time high set in October 2025 and roughly 8.4% above the 21-month low near $59,300 recorded in June 2026. Between those two points, bitcoin has spent eleven weeks building a range that has repeatedly absorbed selling between $60,000 and $63,000 and repeatedly rejected buying above $65,000. Tuesday's action was the fourth consecutive failure to convert $65,000 from resistance into support.
The immediate cause was external. Brent crude pushed above $89 a barrel after another deterioration in the US-Iran standoff over reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and West Texas Intermediate reached $83.33. Higher energy prices raise transportation and production costs, which complicates the Federal Reserve's inflation path and shortens the runway for any policy easing. The 10-year Treasury yield at 4.726% is approaching a seven-month high, and the Dollar Index held at 99.826.
The structural cause is institutional. US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $144.6 million in net outflows on August 10, ending five consecutive sessions of positive flow and removing the single most reliable source of incremental spot demand at precisely the moment leveraged positioning had crowded into the $64,000 to $65,000 area.
Everything now compresses into one release. The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes July Consumer Price Index data on August 12 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Consensus calls for headline CPI at 0.2% month over month and 3.4% year over year, down from 3.5% in June, with core CPI at 0.2% month over month and 2.5% annually, easing from 2.6%. The Federal Open Market Committee meets September 15-16 with the target range at 3.50%-3.75% and futures split roughly evenly on a quarter-point increase.
Bitcoin is positioned between two liquidation pools, below its long-term moving averages, above its short-term ones, and inside a range that has held for eleven weeks. The next 24 hours determine which side breaks.
$63,900 Is The Level That Governs The Rest Of The Week
The $63,900 to $64,000 zone functions as the pivot for three separate reasons, and the convergence is what gives it weight. It marks the 50% retracement of the prior weekly candle, a level that consistently attracts defensive buying and stop placement in equal measure. It sits directly above the nearest downside liquidation cluster. And it aligns with the lower boundary of the four-hour consolidation that has contained price since Friday.
Bitcoin moved below that region during Tuesday's sell-off and recovered, which establishes that bidders remain active at the weekly midpoint. The recovery was partial rather than decisive: price closed the move back at $64,281 without reclaiming the $65,000 level that buyers had spent four sessions attempting to establish as a floor.
The four-hour Supertrend has flipped bearish and now places resistance at $65,210. Bitcoin also lost the indicator's former support near $64,344 during the decline. Both levels must be reclaimed before the short-term trend structure returns to a constructive position, and the gap between $64,344 and $65,210 defines the reclaim zone that bulls need to close through.
Bull-bear power printed at negative 612, which confirms sellers hold short-term control. The magnitude matters as much as the sign. That reading sits well inside the extremes recorded during the June sell-offs, which places current conditions in ordinary distribution rather than capitulation. A market that is selling without panic retains the capacity to sell further.
Below $63,900, the structure degrades in stages. The recent low at $63,200 is the first confirmation level. A break there opens $62,000, and beneath that sits the June-July demand zone between $57,500 and $60,000 that produced the last major reversal. Above $63,900, the first target is the prior weekly high near $65,500, which is where the last advance was rejected.
The Moving Average Stack Builds A $67,628 To $69,918 Ceiling
The daily moving average configuration is the clearest statement of where bitcoin sits in its cycle. Price at $64,279 trades above the 20-day simple moving average at $64,219 and above the 50-day at $63,392. It trades below the 100-day at $67,628 and below the 200-day at $69,918.
That arrangement produces a specific market structure: a short-term recovery embedded inside a medium-term downtrend. Holding both the 20-day and 50-day preserves the bounce that began after the June low. Failing to reclaim the 100-day and 200-day keeps every advance classified as corrective until proven otherwise.
The slope of those longer averages compounds the problem. Both the 100-day and 200-day are declining, which means the resistance band between roughly $67,600 and $70,000 descends toward price rather than waiting for price to rise into it. A bitcoin that moves sideways for four more weeks will meet those averages several thousand dollars lower than $67,628 and $69,918. Time works in favor of a mean-reversion resolution regardless of direction.
The exponential moving average set tells the same story with tighter spacing. The 20-day EMA sits near $63,943, the 50-day EMA near $64,587, the 100-day EMA near $67,025, and the 200-day EMA near $72,569. The 50-day EMA at $64,587 has capped every attempt over the past three weeks, which makes it the single most tested rejection level on the chart and the first genuine confirmation any recovery needs.
The distance between the 50-day EMA and the 200-day EMA is roughly $8,000, or 12.4% of spot. That spread quantifies the repair job. Bitcoin does not return to a confirmed uptrend by reclaiming $65,000. It returns to a confirmed uptrend by closing above $72,569, and no scenario currently priced by the derivatives market contemplates that within the August expiry cycle.
The 50-day SMA at $63,392 is the level where the short-term thesis dies. A daily close below it removes the last supporting average and leaves the $57,500 to $60,000 zone as the next structural reference.
RSI At 50.31 Describes A Market With No Owner
The daily relative strength index stood at 50.31 against a signal line at 50.10. That is the most neutral reading available. It states that neither side has accumulated momentum, that the recent rally exhausted itself without reaching overbought conditions, and that the recent decline has not reached oversold conditions either.
Neutral RSI at a range midpoint is the specific configuration that precedes expansion rather than continuation. Momentum oscillators compress before volatility events and resolve afterward. With a scheduled macro catalyst 24 hours out, the reading is doing exactly what it should: registering that the market has stopped taking directional risk ahead of information it does not have.
The practical consequence is that momentum provides no edge in either direction at current levels. Traders positioning off RSI alone have nothing to work with, which pushes the decision-making weight onto structure and liquidity. That is why the liquidation heatmap has become the more informative chart.
The comparison with the June episode sharpens the point. Bitcoin's slide to $59,300 in June produced RSI readings in the low 20s alongside extreme negative bull-bear power. Those conditions marked a capitulation low that generated a durable bounce. Current conditions share none of that character. There is no washout to buy and no exhaustion to fade.
The absence of an oversold signal at $63,771 is itself a warning. A market that reaches the bottom of its eleven-week range without generating oversold momentum has not expended the selling pressure required to reverse. It has simply arrived. Should CPI disappoint, the move lower would begin from neutral rather than from stretched conditions, which permits considerably more downside before technical exhaustion appears.
The inverse applies to the upside. A cool CPI print would launch a rally from neutral momentum with room to run toward overbought before mechanical resistance appears, which places the $65,500 and $67,628 levels in play faster than the current tape suggests.
Liquidation Clusters At $63,700 And $65,600 Set The Reaction Path
The one-week liquidation heatmap shows leveraged positions concentrated on both sides of spot, and the distribution explains why bitcoin has been oscillating rather than trending.
The nearest downside cluster sits between $63,600 and $63,800. Bitcoin tested that band during Tuesday's decline and did not produce a sustained breakdown, which means the positions inside it remain open. A second pocket sits between $63,200 and $63,400. If $63,700 fails, forced selling from the first cluster accelerates price into the second, and the two together define a $600 zone where mechanical selling would dominate order flow.
The largest upside band sits between $65,500 and $65,700. A move through $65,000 triggers short liquidations in that pocket and delivers price to the weekly high without requiring incremental spot buying. Additional liquidity appears near $66,200 and $67,000, though reaching those levels demands a confirmed range breakout rather than a squeeze.
The distance from spot to each cluster is close to symmetrical: roughly 0.9% to the downside pocket and 1.9% to the upside pocket. That symmetry is what produces the current stalemate. Neither side can force the other's liquidation without a catalyst large enough to move price through the intervening spread.
A CPI print is exactly that catalyst. The historical distribution of bitcoin's reaction to inflation releases produces first-hour moves of 1.5% to 3% in the direction of the surprise, which is sufficient to reach either cluster from $64,279.
The asymmetry sits in what happens after the first move. A downside break through $63,700 into $63,200 lands price directly on the 50-day SMA at $63,392, where the mechanical selling meets a structural support level. A upside break through $65,700 lands price in open air between the cluster and the 100-day SMA at $67,628, with no intervening liquidity to slow it. The upside scenario has less friction once it clears the first barrier.
Spot ETFs Turned Negative With $144.6 Million Out On August 10
US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $144.6 million in net outflows on August 10, ending a five-session inflow streak and reversing the strongest week of institutional demand since spring. The prior week delivered $853 million in net inflows, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust accounting for $693 million of that total, or 81% of the complex.
The reversal matters more than its size. A $144.6 million redemption against a $1.29 trillion asset is trivial in isolation. What it removes is the daily bid that had been absorbing spot supply during the four-session attempt to establish $65,000 as support. Without it, the same selling that price had been absorbing became the selling that moved price.
The 2026 flow record explains why the market treats each reversal as significant. Net flows have been negative in 54% of trading sessions this year, against 40% in 2025 and 31% in 2024. The longest outflow streak ran thirteen sessions from May 15 to June 3, shedding $4.37 billion and coinciding with the move to the 21-month low. Cumulative net flow since the January 2024 launch remains positive at $51.3 billion, but the 2026 year-to-date figure sits roughly $4.5 billion in the red.
That is the first negative calendar year in the products' history. The complex spent two years functioning as a one-way accumulation vehicle and now functions as a two-way flow instrument that transmits macro sentiment into spot bitcoin with a one-day lag.
The August pattern before Monday had been constructive. The complex recorded consecutive positive sessions through the first week of the month, with BlackRock adding $111 million on August 3, Fidelity $33 million, and Franklin Templeton $9 million. Friday's weak payrolls report cooled rate-hike expectations and cleared a path for continued institutional buying, which produced the $853 million weekly figure.
Monday's oil move reversed that logic in a single session. The mechanism connecting Brent at $89 to bitcoin ETF redemptions runs through the rate path, and it operates within hours.
IBIT Holds 734,261 BTC Against A $17.6 Billion Unrealized Loss
The scale of the position BlackRock has built, and the mark on that position, is disclosed in the fund's quarterly filing. Per the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF Form 10-Q for the period ended June 30, 2026, the trust held 734,261 bitcoin at a cost basis of $61,003,144,500 and a fair value of $43,395,920,710, producing net assets of $43,386,012,125.
That is an unrealized loss of $17.61 billion, or 28.9% of cost. The average acquisition price across the entire position works out to roughly $83,080 per bitcoin, which sits 29.2% above Tuesday's $64,279 spot price and above every level bitcoin has traded at since March.
The comparison with the prior year-end sharpens the picture. At December 31, 2025, the trust held 770,792 bitcoin at a cost of $64,696,243,884 and a fair value of $67,415,764,355, with net assets of $67,401,155,244. Over six months, coin count fell by 36,531 and net assets fell by $24.0 billion, a 35.6% decline in assets against a 4.7% decline in units held.
The distinction between those two figures is the entire story of 2026 ETF flows. The fund lost 4.7% of its bitcoin to redemptions and 30.9% of its value to price. Investors have not abandoned the vehicle. The vehicle has been marked down.
That structure creates a specific overhang. An average cost basis near $83,080 means the marginal ETF holder is deep underwater, and price advances toward the mid-$70,000s would move a large cohort from loss into breakeven territory, where redemption pressure historically intensifies. The path back to the highs runs through supply that has been waiting since the fourth quarter of 2025.
IBIT shares traded near $35.64 in early August against a 52-week range of $32.84 to $71.82, with an expense ratio of 0.25%. The share price sits 50.4% below its 52-week high, tracking spot closely and confirming that the discount reflects bitcoin rather than fund-specific stress.
Strategy Sold 1,690 BTC And Has Not Bought For Seven Weeks
The largest corporate holder has become a net seller. Strategy disposed of 1,690 bitcoin for approximately $108.6 million and directed the proceeds into repurchasing $108.6 million of its STRC preferred stock. The company has now sold roughly $432 million of bitcoin during 2026 and has gone seven consecutive weeks without a purchase.
The transaction structure is the informative part. Selling bitcoin to retire preferred equity is a balance sheet repair operation, not a directional call on the asset. It reduces fixed obligations and simplifies the capital structure at the cost of shrinking the reserve those obligations were raised to fund. A company that raised capital to buy bitcoin is now selling bitcoin to unwind the capital.
The absolute numbers keep the position dominant. Strategy still holds 840,447 bitcoin, which exceeds IBIT's June 30 holding of 734,261 and represents roughly 4% of total supply. At $64,279, that stake carries a market value near $54.0 billion. The seven-week purchase drought removes a bid that had been a structural feature of the market for four years.
Related activity confirmed the direction. The company raised $653 million through share sales during the same period, which places both sides of the balance sheet in motion simultaneously: equity issued, bitcoin sold, preferred retired.
The market read the combination as a signal about the treasury-company model rather than about bitcoin itself. Corporate treasury vehicles function as leveraged accumulation instruments during advances and as forced sellers during drawdowns, and the second half of that cycle has arrived. Trump Media's termination of its CRO treasury arrangement reinforced the pattern across the sector.
The arithmetic that matters for spot bitcoin is straightforward. Two of the three largest sources of persistent demand over the past two years, spot ETFs and corporate treasuries, have moved from net accumulation to net distribution within the same quarter. That leaves on-chain holders as the remaining absorber.
Whales Accumulate The $63,000 To $65,000 Band While Small Wallets Shrink
On-chain wallet cohort data shows a split that runs directly against the flow picture. Whale and shark wallets have continued accumulating bitcoin within the $63,000 to $65,000 band, while balances held by smaller investors have fallen at the fastest pace since December 2024.
That divergence is the strongest counter-signal available to the bearish case. The cohorts with the longest holding periods and the deepest capital bases are adding at exactly the levels where ETF holders and corporate treasuries are reducing. Large holders are functioning as the buyer of last resort for supply that institutional vehicles are releasing.
The distribution pattern has historical precedent at range lows. Concentrated accumulation by large wallets during periods of retail liquidation typically precedes range expansion rather than range breakdown, because it removes float from the market at prices the accumulating cohort has selected deliberately.
The counterweight is sentiment. The positive-to-negative commentary ratio for bitcoin fell to 0.54 across major social platforms since July 31, meaning bearish posts nearly doubled bullish ones. That is a contrarian input at extremes and a confirming input during trends, and the current reading sits at levels that historically mark exhaustion rather than the start of a decline.
Derivatives positioning has been tilted toward shorts absorbing losses. During the early-August advance, bitcoin-specific derivatives showed short liquidations exceeding $30 million for two consecutive days against long liquidations near $8 million, and a broader session cleared roughly $192 million in crypto positions with $112 million of that coming from shorts.
Bitcoin briefly touched $65,340 during that sequence, the highest August level, after recovering more than $1,000 from $64,132. The advance failed to hold, which established $65,340 as the intraday reference the current range must exceed.

Hashprice At $32 Per PH/s Keeps The Fleet In Rationalization
Network fundamentals have been contracting for eight months, and the contraction has reached levels with almost no precedent. Mining difficulty sits 19.9% below its peak, the third deepest decline since ASICs replaced graphics processors as the industry's primary hardware. Difficulty fell 0.74% on July 25 to 126.23 trillion following a 5% cut on July 11, against a record near 156 trillion set in November 2025. Current difficulty stands at 127.48 trillion, with the next retarget projected near August 22 at approximately +0.72%.
Difficulty has now turned negative on a year-over-year basis for only the second time in bitcoin's history. The prior instance followed China's 2021 mining ban, when roughly half the network's computing power went offline before relocating. The current contraction has no single policy cause. It reflects compressed mining revenue, a lower bitcoin price, less efficient hardware shutting down, and power capacity migrating into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.
Network hashrate fell to approximately 868 EH/s by late July, a 12% decline from the late-2025 peak above one zettahash per second, and recorded two consecutive quarterly declines through June.
Hashprice stood near $32 per petahash per second per day in late July. The breakeven threshold for older machines sits near $35, which places a meaningful share of the fleet below cost. Antminer S19-generation hardware cannot generate positive cash flow at current prices unless operators secure electricity below roughly five cents per kilowatt hour. Newer S21-class machines remain profitable.
The weighted average cash cost to produce one bitcoin among publicly listed miners reached approximately $79,995 in the fourth quarter of 2025. At $64,279, spot sits 19.6% below that figure, which forces the operations still running older fleets to fund production from reserves or from equity.
The strategic response has been a pivot rather than a shutdown. Listed miners have announced more than $70 billion in AI and HPC contracts, with Hut 8's AI leases alone totaling $26.6 billion. Facilities built for hashing are being converted to compute, which permanently removes that capacity from the network.
Mining Equities Broke Down As Bitdeer Lost 20.08%
The equity expression of that pressure was the worst-performing cluster in Monday's US session. Bitdeer Technologies fell 20.08% to $8.70, the second largest decline among liquid names on the tape. MARA Holdings dropped 5.25% to $9.56 on 42.2 million shares against a 44.1 million average, and the stock trades 35.57% below year-ago levels with a $3.69 billion market capitalization.
Riot Platforms lost 5.46% to $19.40. TeraWulf fell 5.15% to $16.20 despite holding a 216.30% twelve-month gain and a $8.08 billion capitalization, with a 52-week range spanning $5.02 to $29.84. Keel Infrastructure declined 12.37% to $3.40 on 37.0 million shares.
The dispersion inside that group is the useful signal. TeraWulf's 216% twelve-month gain against MARA's 35.57% decline separates the operators that converted power capacity into contracted AI revenue from the operators still selling hashes. The market is no longer pricing these as a single sector.
Bitcoin's own price transmits into those equities with amplification. A 1.53% decline in spot produced declines of 5% to 20% across the group, an effective beta between three and thirteen depending on balance sheet leverage and hedging. That relationship compounds during drawdowns, since miners with production costs above spot must sell reserves to cover operating expenses, which adds supply to the market that is pressuring them.
Strategy's $653 million in share sales and 1,690 bitcoin disposal sits inside the same dynamic. The capital markets channel that funded bitcoin accumulation through 2024 and 2025 has reversed, and the reversal delivers coins to the market rather than removing them.
The structural read is that miner selling has already occurred at record rates through 2026 and that difficulty has adjusted downward to reflect it. Survivors operate at lower difficulty with better unit economics, which is the mechanism by which mining sectors bottom. That process reduces future forced selling even as it confirms the severity of the present episode.
Brent At $88.89 And A 4.726% Ten-Year Are The Actual Drivers
Bitcoin's correlation to its own fundamentals has been subordinate to its correlation with rates for the entire year, and Tuesday demonstrated the hierarchy cleanly.
Brent crude rose above $89 a barrel and settled at $88.89 after President Trump rejected Iran's reparations demand and stated he would allow economic pressure to build rather than accelerate negotiations. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi stated there is no possibility of restarting talks until the United States compensates Iran for violations of the June memorandum of understanding. West Texas Intermediate traded at $83.33.
Oil prices rose roughly 21% during July after the conflict disrupted regional flows. That move enters the July CPI as a direct contribution to transportation and production costs, and it enters the Federal Reserve's calculus as a supply shock that rate policy cannot address at its source.
The rate consequence produced the equity and crypto reaction. The 10-year Treasury yield at 4.726% approaches a seven-month high, and 30-year yields sit near levels last seen roughly two decades ago. The Dollar Index held at 99.826. Gold futures at $4,436.60 gained 0.38%, which separates the inflation hedge from the risk asset with unusual clarity: the metal absorbed the inflation bid while bitcoin absorbed the rate pressure.
Equity markets registered the same forces. The S&P 500 closed Monday at roughly 7,753, down 0.06% and five points below its record. The Nasdaq Composite gave back 0.32%. The Dow fell 61 points to 53,976. Bitcoin's 1.53% decline was a higher-beta expression of the identical trade.
The labor backdrop provides the offsetting input. July nonfarm payrolls fell by 23,000 against forecasts near an 83,000 gain, and unemployment eased to 4.1% from 4.2% alongside a declining participation rate. That combination cooled hike expectations on Friday and delivered the $853 million weekly ETF inflow. Monday's oil move reversed it within one session, which measures how thin the constructive case currently is.
The July CPI Print Decides Which Liquidity Pool Gets Tested
The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases July CPI on August 12 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by the Producer Price Index on August 13. Consensus places headline CPI at 0.2% month over month and 3.4% year over year, easing from 3.5% in June and 4.2% in May. Core CPI is projected at 0.2% month over month and 2.5% annually, down from 2.6%.
The June report set a base that will be difficult to match. Headline prices fell 0.4% month over month, the largest single-month decline since April 2020, driven entirely by falling energy costs. July removes that contribution, which leaves core services carrying the reading and makes the gap between headline and core the variable that determines the Fed's response.
A cool print delivers a specific sequence for bitcoin. Treasury yields retreat, the dollar softens, and spot ETF flows return to the positive side. Price reclaims $65,000, triggers short liquidations in the $65,500 to $65,700 cluster, and moves toward the 100-day SMA at $67,628. That level, alongside the 100-day EMA near $67,025, is where the recovery meets genuine resistance rather than mechanical resistance.
A hot print, defined as core CPI at 0.3% month over month or higher, reverses each step. September hike odds move decisively above 50%, the 10-year pushes through 4.85%, and bitcoin loses $63,900. The move accelerates through the $63,600 to $63,800 cluster into $63,200, breaks the 50-day SMA at $63,392, and opens $62,000 with the $57,500 to $60,000 demand zone as the structural target.
The September 15-16 FOMC meeting receives August payrolls and August CPI before it convenes, so July data does not settle the question. It sets the burden of proof. Three of twelve voting members preferred a hike at the last meeting, and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack stated Monday that bringing inflation down will take more than a single increase, which reframes the debate from one hike to a sequence.
Regulatory catalysts have been removed from the near-term window. The CLARITY Act's procedural vote was delayed until September 15, eliminating the policy event that some positioning had anticipated before the Senate recess.
The Altcoin Tape Shows XRP And Cardano Leading The Downside
The broader digital asset complex weakened alongside bitcoin, with dispersion that identifies where leverage was concentrated.
Ether traded at $1,889.60, down 1.2%. XRP fell 2.3% to $1.01, holding the dollar level that has functioned as psychological support through the summer. Cardano dropped 3.2% to $0.18757 after Grayscale withdrew its ADA exchange-traded fund filing, the sharpest decline among major assets. Solana slipped 0.7% to $75.90. BNB gained 0.3% to $611.84.
Two names moved against the tape. Chainlink rose 5% to $8.64. Hyperliquid advanced 1.7% to $55.09. That relative strength in a session where bitcoin fell 2% intraday marks capital rotating within the complex rather than exiting it.
Ether at $1,889.60 against a $233 billion market capitalization produces a bitcoin-to-ether ratio near 34, which sits at the high end of its multi-year distribution and indicates that bitcoin has retained relative strength through the entire drawdown. Capital leaving the sector exits altcoins first.
The pattern across the tape is consistent with a market where selling is concentrated in leveraged and narrative-driven positions rather than in core holdings. Cardano's 3.2% decline traced to a specific product withdrawal. XRP's 2.3% decline tracked the broader risk move. Neither carried the volume signature of a systemic exit.
Two security and protocol overhangs remain unresolved. The Coldcard random number generator flaw has drained roughly $116 million from hardware wallets and continues to produce losses, with a subsequent audit identifying 85 additional critical bugs across bitcoin infrastructure. The BIP-110 proposal closed without adoption, reopening discussion of proof-of-work modifications and ASIC incentives.
Neither has moved price materially, which measures how completely the macro variable dominates. A $116 million self-custody exploit produced no visible effect on a $1.29 trillion asset during a week when a $144.6 million ETF outflow moved it 2%.
Bitcoin Price Forecast: Levels, Targets And Invalidation
The base case holds bitcoin inside the $60,000 to $65,500 range through the CPI reaction, with $63,900 as the operative pivot. Price at $64,279 sits above the 20-day SMA at $64,219 and the 50-day at $63,392, which keeps the recovery structure from the June low intact. Neither average has been lost on a closing basis, and both must break before the range thesis fails.
The bullish path requires three sequential confirmations. First, a four-hour close above $65,210 to flip the Supertrend and reclaim the level lost during Tuesday's decline. Second, a daily close above $65,500 to clear the prior weekly high and trigger the $65,500 to $65,700 liquidation cluster. Third, a daily close above the 50-day EMA at $64,587 sustained rather than intraday, since that level has capped every attempt for three weeks. Clearing all three opens $66,200, $67,000, and the 100-day SMA at $67,628 as sequential targets. The measured objective from the eleven-week range projects toward $70,000, which coincides with the 200-day SMA at $69,918.
The bearish path requires two. A confirmed loss of $63,900 on a four-hour close, followed by a break of the $63,200 recent low. That sequence delivers price into the $63,200 to $63,400 liquidity pocket and through the 50-day SMA at $63,392 in the same move. Targets below sit at $62,000, then the June-July demand zone between $57,500 and $60,000. A loss of $60,000 puts the June low at $59,300 in play, and beneath that the structure has no defined support until the low $50,000s.
Invalidation for the bullish case is a daily close below $63,392. Invalidation for the bearish case is a daily close above $65,700.
The medium-term picture stays corrective until bitcoin reclaims the 200-day SMA at $69,918 and the 200-day EMA at $72,569. Those levels are 8.8% and 12.9% above spot, and both are declining. Nothing in the current flow structure, with ETFs at negative year-to-date flows and the largest corporate holder seven weeks without a purchase, supports a move of that magnitude before the September FOMC decision.
The offsetting force is accumulation. Whale and shark wallets buying the $63,000 to $65,000 band, sentiment at a 0.54 positive-to-negative ratio, mining difficulty 19.9% below peak, and RSI at 50.31 collectively describe a market that has completed most of its distribution. Those are the conditions from which ranges resolve upward once the macro constraint lifts.
The macro constraint does not lift on Wednesday. It either tightens or holds. That is the trade.
